TEACHING
As singers, we are fortunate to have this special way of expressing ourselves. We can use it to make art, to enrich our lives and the lives of others, or we can use it to push others out of our way in order to feel good about ourselves... [U]ltimately, we make our own choices about the kind of artists we want to be." |
I currently teach voice at Boston University as well as privately. My approach to voice teaching is holistic. I believe that people sing as they are, and that each singer has a unique instrument and viewpoint. We work for the most organic, natural functioning of your instrument in order to maximize the individuality of your sound. Breath, vowels, space, and body alignment all combine to give you as many artistic choices as possible. It is also important to incorporate language and style into your approach to repertoire, so I work with both of those elements within the lessons as well. Technique is a plan, a way to ensure that you will be able to produce your desired musical result in any circumstance.
My studio at BU includes both undergraduate and graduate students, and my private studio is comprised of professional and pre-professional singers. For BU I also serve as the Chair of the Voice Department. Information on Voice Auditions at BU can be found here: Voice Audition Information. You can contact me for further information on trial lessons.

STUDENTS
"Equally at home as a sensational singer on stage and a passionate teacher in a studio, Dr. Lynn Eustis is known for her phenomenal vocal techniques, which can be seen not only in her own performances but also in the vocal growth of her students. I had the honor of learning from her while pursuing my Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University.
Under her guidance, I improved consistently vocally and artistically, and I was given more tools to express my music as an artist through her teaching. Dr. Eustis has become more than just a teacher to me, but also a friend, throughout these years. All that would not be happening if she was not teaching from a place that put her students first. Thank you, Lynn [...] I appreciate you and your constant support. Dr. Wee Kiat Chia, Countertenor and Metropolitan Opera National Council New England Regional Finalist |
"Dr. Eustis is far and away the best voice teacher I have ever had. In the three years since joining her studio, I have learned more than I have in nearly a decade. She is an incredible technician, singer, and artist. Her lessons are a well-rounded and varied approach to singing; she works with breath and vocal technique, dramatic interpretation, language skills and musical stylings.
My vocal technique, ability and confidence as a singer have grown immensely since I began studying with her. I am now able to truly express myself artistically, and am performing at a consistent and high level, thanks to the skills she taught me. Aside from her amazing value as a teacher and performer, she is also incredibly kind, professional, and a lovely person. I feel lucky to be her student." Caroline Corrales, Soprano and Metropolitan Opera National Council New England Encouragement Award Winner |
"Within the first year of studying with Dr. E, I felt like I was able to use my breath more efficiently, giving me the vocal and physical stamina that I needed to get through three subsequent lead roles I was undertaking at the time. Through her guidance over the years, I've become a stronger and more confident artist who isn't afraid to try things or make choices."
Kelley Hollis, Soprano with Juventas New Music Ensemble |
"Dr. Eustis played such an important role in my development as a singer, guiding me as a very green grad student who hadn't gone to a music school for my undergraduate degree and had a bit of catching up to do! She was so encouraging and made me feel respected and at ease in the studio. I left with a stronger, freer voice and command of my musicianship.
I remember thinking I was lucky to have a voice teacher who was not only a technician but had the abilities of a coach as well, with an exceptional understanding of style and repertoire. She always did an incredible job of picking the perfect repertoire for each member of the studio, and she had the experience and skill to expertly guide me through all of my areas of passion (art song, opera, early music, oratorio). Now that I regularly perform all of those genres in my career as a mezzo-soprano, I'm so grateful for those grad school years with Dr. Eustis!" Sarah Nelson Craft, Mezzo-Soprano |
